Since fall 2016, a new interdisciplinary large-scale project of the "University Medicine Zurich" association has been dedicated to the topic of skin. The aim is to build up the Zurich site as a world leader in skin research. The project is led by Sabine Werner, Professor of Cell Biology at the ETH Zurich, and by Lars French, Professor and Chairman of Dermatology and Venereology at the UZH and Director of the Derpartment of Dermatology at the University Hospital Zurich.
Decisive for the project is the increasing importance of skin diseases such as skin cancer, chronic skin wounds or scleroderma. Through a unique collaboration between highly specialized clinicians and scientists of the UZH and ETH in this field, the best expertise in biology, medicine, mechanics and engineering should come together and provide the most efficient basis for rapid and targeted research results for better treatment of severe skin diseases.
This in 2004 by Prof. Günter Burg, Prof. Reinhard Dummer, Prof. Roland Kaufmann, Prof. Renato Panizzon and Catherine Frey-Blanc founded association aims to promote skin cancer projects at the Deparmtent of Dermatology at the USZ under the direction of Prof. Dummer and to continuously improve the patient care. It provided an assistant professorship through start-up funding, which Prof. Mitchel Levesque held until May 2017.
