Sexually Transmitted Diseases/Infections

In Switzerland today, syphilis and HIV are among the most common sexually transmitted diseases (STDs or STIs). in the last few years the number of syphilis cases has again started to rise. This could be due to heightened travel activity, for instance to Asian countries, as well as – given contemporary treatment options for HIV – to the somewhat careless behaviors concerning the transmission of HIV infection.


Open sores in the genital area, dysuria, purulent discharge from genitalia or urethra.


Next to clinical examination based on symptoms, laboratory testing is critical in order to diagnose the precise cause of infection. It is the basis for determining appropriate antibiotic therapy.
